American Heart Association
Below is an explanation for the distance learning option for the American Heart Association's BLS instructor course.
What is required?
- Current CPR certification-within 6 months
- Reliable internet access
- Access to a telephone
How does this work?
- Complete an at-home study course on DVD-ROM (mailed after registration/payment are received)
- Complete a “classroom session” online
- Complete the observation requirement-this is explained in detail during class, but travel may be required to complete this requirement
What does it cost? $150 for new instructors, $100 for “bridge” candidates who hold a current ARC instructor certification.
What does it allow me to teach?
After completing all the requirements, you will be eligible to teach CPR at the level at which you are currently certified and below. Those with medical training (i.e.: EMT-B level, RN level, etc. ) or who have completed an American Heart Association First Aid course within the last 6 months are also eligible to teach the First Aid programs. This is reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the training center coordinator.
How long is the certification good for?
All American Heart Association certifications are for 2 years.
Is this a good choice for me?
To take this class, you should be comfortable with using your computer, accessing the Internet, e-mail, and downloading files.
