EMT Licensing

NH Recertification Center

Please read the following section carefully:  There are two different options for recertification: traditional RTP and Exam in Lieu (also called CBT). We’re prepared to help you recertify using either method.  The differences between the two methods are shown below.

Warning! The failure to complete all recertification requirements prior to April 1 can have severe consequences.

Note: After completing recertification with the NREMT, you must still relicense with New Hampshire.

Paramedics: The following applies to EMT-Basics and EMT-Intermediates only.

Traditional Recertification:

This method requires 48 hours of CEUs, a standard 24 hour EMT-Basic RTP and a State of New Hampshire practical examination.

Intermediates: an additional 12 hours of ALS CEUs are required.

New Alternative Recertification Method - Exam in Lieu (also called CBT)

In-depth details on applying to take the Computer Based Test on the National Registry website can be found here. Below is a general outline.

  1. Register to take the computer-based exam at the National Registry website
  2. Take and pass the computer based exam for your level of certification.*
    • The McGregor “Written Exam Prep Day” is specifically designed to help you pass the National Registry's Cognitive Exam
    • For tips on passing the National Registries Computer Based Test (CBT) click here.
  3. Complete the required NREMT-Basic Cognitive Competency by Exam Form (which will be mailed after you pass the exam)
  4. Present a copy of the NREMT documentation along with the congratulations letter to the geographically appropriate Education Specialist who will review the documentation.  The state will issue a “Certificate of Completion” within 14 days of receipt of proper documentation.
Note: This step may not be listed on the letter you receive from the NREMT
  5. Submit the NREMT paperwork and the original State of New Hampshire ”Certificate of Completion” to the National Registry.
  6. Make copies of what is sent to the NREMT

Tip! The registration fee is included in the exam cost.

* Note: You only have one chance to pass the written exam.  If you choose the Exam in Lieu method and fail the written exam then your only option is to refresh using the traditional manner.
