McGregor Memorial EMS Donates 3 New AED's to the Oyster River Cooperative School District
Durham, NH - May 17, 2007 - McGregor Memorial EMS (McGregor), a non-profit EMS agency based in Durham, NH, has donated 3 new Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to Oyster River Cooperative School District (ORCSD) in support of the school districts commitment to becoming CPR SafeTM certified (McGregor certifies schools as CPR SafeTM when they have trained at least 75% of their staff CPR/AED and they have provided ready access to an AED). These new defibrillators will more than double the existing AED's at the middle school and high school, providing greater access to these lifesaving devices.
The AED's were purchased with monies donated to McGregor by concerned community members who wished to remain anonymous. Their concern stems from an increase in sudden cardiac arrest of middle school and high school athletes; this is the leading cause of death amongst this population. Patients in cardiac arrest need CPR and the life-saving shock of an AED within minutes of arrest in order to have the best chance of survival. This donation will allow the athletic department to ensure that an AED is present on the sidelines at all home sporting events.
The ORCSD has been dedicated to increasing school safety and staff CPR training. The donation by McGregor of AED's and the support of the CPR SafeTM program has allowed the ORCSD to move forward. Moharimet Elementary school became the first CPR SafeTM certified model. McGregor Memorial EMS and the ORCSD will be implementing the full CPR SafeTM training program in the fall of 2007.
